Hi! I’m Madi.

I’m a social worker, witch, writer, and co-owner of Roots & Ritual, a shop and community space in Chicago.

I help people reconnect with what matters most, break free from cycles that no longer serve them, and craft magical lives they truly feel at home in.

With two degrees in social work and over a decade of experience working in non-profits, I’ve cultivated a variety of skills that allow me to support people at various phases of their lives. I approach my work through the lens of trauma-informed care and healing-centered practices, meaning I meet people where they are, offer guidance that is both grounded and compassionate, and honor each person’s unique path. My values of community, joy, creativity, growth, compassion, and authenticity guide everything I do.

As a witch and devotee of Persephone, I am drawn to the balance of duality — descent and return, light and shadow, life and death embracing all as necessary forces in transformation. My practice is a blend of the practical and the magical, a reflection of the union between my Virgo sun and Cancer moon. Through my work, I create spaces for those who feel deeply and are ready to break old patterns, reconnect with their true self, and walk a path of healing, growth, and everyday magic. After our time together, my hope is that you’ll leave feeling seen, valued, and equipped with resources to support your journey forward.

Whether you’re looking for one-on-one support or a community to grow alongside, I’m here to walk with you on your path through the underworld and back.

My Education and Background

Master of Social Work, Fordham University

Bachelor of Social Work, Portland State University

I have worked in non-profits for the last 10+ years in a variety of roles. I’ve worked across the fields of mental health, youth services, case management, and nonprofit consulting. Across every role, I’ve remained committed to equity, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and building relationships rooted in trust, compassion, and care.

My Spiritual Lineage & Journey

I am so grateful for the incredible folks I’ve learned from over the years and I want to create space here to name and honor them for their role in my journey.

Growing up, I used to make potions in the shower by mixing different bath products and repeating little phrases for whatever I was trying to call into existence. I had regular sleepovers with my “fairy friends” and was always drawn to witches in TV shows and movies. I didn’t grow up practicing any kind of organized religion, but my mom gave me a book of prayers from around the world, and I memorized and recited my favorite ones regularly. She also kept a tarot deck and witchy books around… ones I eventually borrowed (or stole, depending on who you ask). I loved the iconography of tarot — I had cards strung up in my high school bedroom and a High Priestess necklace that I wore regularly — although I didn’t start actually reading the cards until college. All the signs pointed to being a witch, basically.

But it wasn’t until a reading with Kir Beaux of It’s Queer Magic in 2020 when I really committed to building my spiritual practice. I vividly remember leaving the Zoom meeting with them and immediately putting on “I Feel the Earth Move” by Carole King. I danced to it with tears streaming down my face and full body goosebumps punctuating my skin, then promptly went to Safeway to buy white flowers, chocolate, and dried fruits to set up an altar and present offerings to my spiritual team.

Taking Into the Veil with Kaitlyn Graña, Mother of Mystics, in 2021 supported me in further deepening my relationship and devotion to my spirits, which I now consider to be both the foundation and the most important part of my practice. I will always and forever regard ITV as one of the most profound experiences I have ever had.

For tarot, I am eternally grateful to have learned from Corinna Rosella’s Tarot School for Liberation, Charlie Claire Burgess The Mysterious Tarot, and Lindsay Mack’s Trauma and the Tarot — all in 2020.

I’ve been in many other workshops and courses over the years, but the ones listed here are the ones whose teachings shape my personal and professional practice the most.

Beyond the folks who I have learned from directly, there are other practitioners I have learned from through following them on social media for years, reading their words, and/or listening to their podcasts:

My Ethics of Practice

This is a living document of values, practices, and boundaries that guide my work as a spiritual practitioner.

The intention of this is to offer clarity about what I offer and support mutual respect in our working relationship. This document was inspired by and created from a workshop I attended with Mother of Mystics on Ethics for Spiritual Business.

I offer 1:1 support sessions (both one-time and ongoing), long-term courses, one-off workshops, and (soon) a curated community space for like-minded individuals to learn and connect. These services are designed to support you in reconnecting with what matters most and integrating magic into your everyday life.

My approach is deeply reflective, collaborative, and focused on helping you reconnect with your own inner knowing. I am a skilled space-holder, guide, and witness as you move through change, choice, and transformation.

What you can expect if we work together:

  • A reflective, grounded space where you are seen, heard, and affirmed.

  • Tangible tools that support values-aligned decisions and committed action.

  • Practical approaches to incorporating magic into your life — whether in small daily rituals or larger, intentional practices.

  • Sessions that are held with care, confidentiality, and compassion.

Logistics

  • Length: Each support session lasts one hour.

  • Access: You’ll receive a meeting link and any necessary prep instructions before we meet.

  • Recordings: Sessions are not recorded by me, but you are welcome to record for personal use.

  • Follow-Up: You’ll receive a follow-up email with resources we discussed. You are welcome to ask any clarifying questions by replying to this email.

Accountability & Feedback

I offer feedback forms after sessions so you can share about your experience. Your reflections help ensure my work stays aligned with my values and your needs. While responses are confidential, I acknowledge the limitations of this.

Confidentiality

What is shared in session stays in session. Any post-session feedback may be used as a testimonial only with your explicit consent.

Boundaries & Scope of Practice

  • I do not offer therapy, mental health treatment, or medical advice. I do not assist folks with processing trauma and traumatic experiences.

  • I do not provide predictive readings or "fortune telling" through tarot or oracle.

  • I may refer you to a therapist, healer, or other practitioner if I believe your needs would be better supported elsewhere.

  • My services are designed to support spiritual growth, clarity, and empowerment — not to replace other forms of care.

Communicating Boundaries

These ethics and boundaries are shared openly on my website and social platforms. Transparency is an ongoing practice, and I welcome questions.

Core Values

This work is an extension of me and my values guide every aspect of it. These include community, joy, creativity, growth, compassion, and authenticity.

I believe in a world where care is political, healing is collective, and magic is accessible. I hope for my work to be one thread in the web of that vision.

Your Boundaries

Your autonomy is sacred. I will never pressure you to share more than you’re comfortable with, and I will always respect your right to say no, redirect a conversation, or pause a session.

Lineage & Influence

My work is deeply shaped by my teachers and my spirits. You can learn more about my spiritual lineage above!
